Greek Halvas Semolina Desserts

Ingredients:

For dough:
1 cup of vegetable oil,
1 cup of yogurt,
2 packets of vanilla (5+5 grams),
1 cup of semolina,
1 packet of baking powder(10 grams),
2 – 2,5 cups of all purpose flour (the cup is 200 ml.).

To dip:
Semolina.

For syrup:
3 cups of granulated sugar,
3 cups of water,
1 slice of lemon juice (Do not boil the syrup,mix until the sugar dissolves).
The cup size is 200 ml.

Directions:

Firstly, to prepare the dough, combine the vegetable oil, yogurt, semolina and vanilla in a deep bowl.
Add the baking powder and add the flour slowly cup by cup.
Knead and get a very soft dough but not sticky.

Divide the dough in 4 pieces.
Roll one of the pieces lenghtwise on a plain surface and get a long and thin roll.
Slice the roll in small pieces and dip each of the pieces into the semolina and place them in to a baking tray.
Continue with the other 3 dough pieces left.

After you place all of them in the tray then bake them in the preheated oven at 170°C until they get golden brown.

While baking, in a deep bowl, combine the sugar and the water and mix them until the sugar dissolves.
When the sugar dissolves, add the lemon juice and mix.

After baking, take semolina desserts out from the oven and pour the cold syrup on them.
Then leave them to absorb the syrup for 2 or 3 hours.

Before serving, you can sprinkle some grated coconut or crushed in big size walnut.
