WOW… A Historic Virginia Restaurant Serves Recipes From The 1700s … You Have To Try It

Flip it!

It’s not just the ca. 1784 tavern’s authentic appearance that history buffs will find appealing at Michie Tavern (pronounced “mickey”), it’s also the waitstaff dressed in period attire and recipes dating to the 1700s that draw people. The traditional southern fare includes fried chicken, of course, as well as pork barbecue, black-eyed peas with country ham, cornbread and cobblers. While you’re there, visit the gift shops housed in adjacent historic buildings, and then take the half-mile drive up to Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello.

While the historical decor and attractions are certainly fascinating, perhaps the most appealing part of all is the buffet. Get in line for a buffet filled with all of your favorite southern classics.

The traditional recipes from the 1700s have truly stood the test of time. Diners rave about the fried chicken and homemade biscuits served here. Other favorites include pork barbecue, black eyed peas, country ham, and cobblers.

After you’ve dined, you’ll enjoy roaming about the property, touring various rooms and the other historical buildings on property.

The dining room is open only for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Note that weekends tend to be especially busy.

Michie Tavern is located at 683 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, Charlottesville, VA 22902. For more information, be sure to visit the official website by clicking here. Have you dined at Michie Tavern before? We’d love to hear all about your experience there!
