Apple Fritter Rings were one of my childhood favorites! But you don’t need eggs or dairy to make them. These Vegan Apple Fritter Rings taste just like the real deal (if not better!). Served with an Almond Maple Sauce – this is a match made in heaven!
This is one of my favorite doughnut situations we have ever posted. I am very excited about it because it is what I have always wanted in an apple fritter. Let me start off first by saying that apple fritters are one of my favorite things to get at the doughnut shop. I especially flip over them if they have just been made and are still warm. There are a few things that I really don’t like about some places that make them. First is too much cinnamon.

Apple Fritters are not cinnamon rolls, so chill on the cinnamon please. Some places are super stingy on their apple filling. It’s shocking because it most likely came from the can, like the weird apple and cherry pie filling you can get at the market. So why be stingy with it? Fill it up! I want it in every nook and cranny! That is what makes these Apple Fritter Rings perfect.
The apple the dough ratio is pretty much set, so you know you’re going to get warm apple in every bite. Awesome. We took a chill pill when it came to cinnamon, I think this is important. We made our glaze with real vanilla beans, so it tastes like magic. We also made these Apple Fritter Rings with Sweet Tango apples.

In my home, these apple fritter rings have a reputation of disappearing of the plate as it is made. They smell so delicious when cooking, with the warm and comforting smell of apple and cinnamon, it is pretty irresistible. What I really love about this recipe is that it uses really simple ingredients to create such bold and amazing flavour. Simple ingredients that you might have in your kitchen right now. Let me show you just how easy it is to make these fritters.
Ingredients:
¼ cup / 60ml buttermilk or plain yoghurt
⅔ cup / 160 ml milk
1 teaspoon / 5 ml oil
1 cup / 120 g all-purpose / cake flour
2 tablespoons / 25g sugar
1 teaspoon / 4g baking powder
Pinch of salt
4 large apples, cored SEE NOTE 1
Oil for deep frying
1/4 cup / 50g sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions:
In a bowl, beat buttermilk or yoghurt, milk and oil. Add the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt;
Combine and mix well until the batter is smooth.
Peel, core and cut apples into ½ inch / 1 ½ cm rings. SEE NOTE 1
Toss the apples into the batter as you slice them.
In a pan on medium, heat the oil. The amount of oil in the pan you are using, should be sufficient to to able to deep fry these fritters. They need to fry and float up to the surface and not stick to the bottom of the pan.
Fry for about a minute and a half on each side until crisp and golden brown.
Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Roll the fritters in cinnamon sugar while warm.
These apple fritters are best eaten warm and on the same day on which it has been prepared.
Notes:
To remove the core and seeds of the apples, I use a metal cannoli tube to push out the core. .It gets the job done easily and quickly. You can use something similar or an apple corer if you have one. Or just slice up the apples and press out the seeds and core with a circular object.
