Buyers of milk or other dairy products in the last 14 years, who are a resident of any one of 15 states, may receive a refund worth up to $70 as the result of a class action lawsuit.
Milk producers have been sued for fixing the prices of milk and dairy products in the states of Arizona, California, the District of Columbia, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
The payout available to milk buyers is part of a class action settlement reached with the Cooperatives Working Together, Time magazine reports.
The lawsuit accused the CWT and its membership of trying to illegally raise the prices of milk and other fresh dairy products by limiting the production of milk. The CWT allegedly slaughtered more than 500,000 cows in its bid to limit production and fix prices.
The dairy providers have forked out more than $52 million to settle the case and issue the refunds to consumers.
The refund consists of up to $70 for private citizens and hundreds of dollars for organizations that have bought a milk product at a retailer in one of the relevant states in the last 14 years.
Eligible U.S. residents must fill out a form at boughtmilk.com by the end of January to qualify for a refund, KFSN reports.
