Yummy!
This is sooo delish; however, I didn’t use the seasonings for the shrimp, instead I made the grits as directed, but I marinated the shrimp for 30 minutes in a pre-made “Sesame and Ginger Marinade.” I broiled the shrimp as directed…..It was AWESOME….and for an extra KICK add fine chopped Cilantro on top!!!!!!! It’s so good you’re gonna wanna slap yo momma!!
My husband’s favorite meal is shrimp and grits. He and I made this together and it was amazing! It was so easy and so delicious!! 🙂 We will DEFINITELY be making this again!
Fantastic flavor! Used an extra-sharp cheddar plus lots of freshly cracked black pepper and the grits were very creamy and cheesy-tasting. The broiled scallions really add to the flavor of the shrimp. I’m going to add extra scallions next time, they were so yummy.
fabulous! I was just at Folly Beach, SC with my neice and family.
she prepared this for us with fresh shrimp and it was INCREDIBLE!
I haven’t made this – but as a health nut from the south – a few tips… Quick Cooking grits are for the birds. Get the real stuff cook low and simmer… It’s the difference between grit and mush. Also – instead of water – sub in skim milk as well in your liquid mix. And sharp cheddar is key. Also bacon – in moderation never hurt anyone. A slice or two that you then cook the shrimp in bacon grease.. Looks like a solid recipe – just a few tips from a shrimp and grit lover.
I’m giving it four stars and I suspect that’s because I didn’t use sharp or extra sharp cheddar. I felt like it could use a little something extra flavor-wise. That being said, it was delicious and my husband declared it was a keeper recipe! I think it’s what some other reviewers said: it’s a good start. Before I make it the next time, I’m going to study other recipes and see what I can incorporate to add flavor while retaining the “eating well” standards! One thing is for certain: it’s quick and easy and filling!

I had this at s party catered my a chef from Texas. It was fabulous yet I couldn’t find any recipes that seemed right. I only made one change – I used cheddar cheese because I think it has a much better flavor. It turned out great and the family loved it. Next time I’ll add some crumbled bacon to make it more like the recipe I had before. Thanks for sharing.
This was really good. I did cook my grits in milk, it makes a huge difference on the flavor and richness of the meal. I will add an extra green onion next time, just personal preference. The only thing I added was some old bay seasoning. This is a keeper for sure. Be great with some nice crusty bread on the side.
I’ve been looking for a shrimp and grits recipe up here in Misery (Missouri). This was by far the best that I’ve found on here. Didn’t change a thing (well maybe I wanted a little more heat and added a bit more Cayenne to it) other than that. I was well satisfied with the outcome.
This is totally delicious, very rich and satisfying. The only change I made was to crumble one slice of cooked bacon into the shrimp as it cooked since I did not have any cheese sauce. I will definitely make this again…. soon!
was Great, did add red bell pepper and used chicken broth to cook rice. Need to add old bay seasoning.
Ingredients:
3 1/3 cups water
2/3 cup uncooked grits
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon minced garlic
2 green onions, diced
1 (16 ounce) package frozen shrimp, peeled and deveined – thawed
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 pinches cayenne pepper, or to tastesalt and ground black pepper to taste
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup cubed processed cheese food (such as Velveeta®).
Directions:
Bring water to a boil in a saucepan; stir grits and salt into the boiling water, cover, and reduce heat to low. Simmer grits until tender, 15 to 20 minutes. Remove from heat and keep warm.
Melt 1/4 cup butter in a pan over medium heat; cook and stir garlic until softened, about 2 minutes. Stir in green onions, cooking until green onions are wilted, another 4 minutes.
Mix shrimp into the garlic and green onions and cook until shrimp are firm and pink, about 5 minutes. Stir in lemon juice, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper.
Just before serving, mix 1/4 cup butter into the cooked grits, followed by processed cheese. Mix thoroughly until creamy and cheese is melted. Season with salt and black pepper.
Place grits in a bowl, top with the shrimp, and pour pan sauce over shrimp and grits to serve.
Note:
Double, triple recipe as needed. This recipe is enough to serve 2 people generously but will easily convert to more servings.
