A 2013 study found that chicken breasts with white striping can harbor 224% more fat than normal, notes Delish. A 2015 study from the National Library of Medicine, notes the thicker and less absorbent quality of chicken breasts with the condition.

A spokesperson from the National Chicken Council told Buzzfeed: A “small percentage of chicken meat,” is affected by the condition. It “does not create any health or food safety concerns and the welfare of the chicken itself is not negatively impacted.
