Regarded in size as medium-to-large, they pack a punch nevertheless. They are among the oldest of herding breeds, dating back to the age of the Romans. They may be the descendants of Roman-drover dogs. With mastiff-type ancestry, no wonder they are fearsome.
However, these dogs are dependable dogs with great guarding skills and exceptional intelligence. If you are unfortunate enough to be attacked by a rottweiler, the best course of action is to remain passive and not further instigate this fearsome creature.
