For the cake:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
2 tablespoons instant coffee granules

For the filling:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1/4 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon instant coffee granules


Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and butter until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
Dissolve the instant coffee granules in the buttermilk.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk mixture and mixing until just combined.
Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan.
To make the filling, cream together the butter, peanut butter, confectioners’ sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and instant coffee granules in a medium bowl until smooth and spreadable. Spoon the filling over the batter in the pan, spreading it out evenly. Spoon the remaining batter over the filling, spreading it out evenly.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
